Markets Update:

U.S. stock futures edged higher on Monday night after Wall Street posted gains during the regular session, as investors returned to technology stocks following last week’s sharp sell-off.

Dow Jones Industrial Average futures rose 56 points, or 0.1%, while S&P 500 futures gained 0.1%. Nasdaq-100 futures advanced 0.2%.

During Monday’s session, the S&P 500 climbed 0.4%, while the Nasdaq Composite rose more than 1%, supported by technology stocks. Nvidia gained 1.4%, Tesla jumped 3.8% and Alphabet advanced approximately 1%.

Asian markets traded lower on Tuesday. Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 0.79%, South Korea’s Kospi declined 2.31% and Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 lost 0.6%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index dropped 1.11%, while mainland China’s CSI 300 slipped 0.58%.

Technology stocks faced heavy selling last week as concerns mounted over companies taking on excessive debt to finance their artificial intelligence investments. However, improving sentiment helped Wall Street recover some ground.

Interactive Brokers senior economist Jose Torres said improving confidence in technology prospects had eased pressure on investors, allowing them to reduce hedges after volatility protection costs surged on Friday.

CoreWeave, which plunged more than 25% last week, attempted a recovery following a Goldman Sachs upgrade to buy. However, its early gains faded, and shares closed slightly lower.

Investors will focus on corporate earnings Tuesday, including results from United Airlines after the closing bell and General Motors before the market opens. Around 70 S&P 500 companies are scheduled to report this week. Housing starts and pending home sales data are also due Tuesday.
