Markets Update:

Stock futures were little changed Monday evening as rising oil prices pressured major indexes and investors looked ahead to a busy week of corporate earnings.

Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up 14 points, while S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 futures remained broadly flat.

During regular trading, the Dow fell 307.16 points, or 0.59%, weighed down by a 2% decline in Apple shares. The S&P 500 slipped 0.19%, while the Nasdaq Composite lost 0.05%.

Asia-Pacific markets traded mixed. Japan’s Nikkei 225 gained 1.63% and the Topix rose 1.8%. South Korea’s Kospi advanced 2%, while the Kosdaq declined 2.15%. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.35%, while China’s CSI 300 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng both declined 0.18%.

Oil prices climbed after President Donald Trump warned Tehran following the deaths of three U.S. service members. U.S. crude settled 0.9% higher at $83.23 per barrel, while Brent gained 1.3% to $89.22.

Investors are now focusing on corporate earnings and signals about artificial intelligence spending and the economic outlook. Alphabet, IBM and Tesla are among the major companies reporting this week, while General Motors and 3M are scheduled to release results Tuesday morning, followed by Chubb after the market closes.
