Markets Update:
U.S. stock futures edged higher Sunday night after the Dow Jones Industrial Average posted its third consecutive weekly loss.
S&P 500 futures rose 0.23%, while Nasdaq-100 futures gained 0.27%. Dow futures advanced 0.25%.
The moves came amid renewed Middle East tensions over the weekend. Iran-backed Houthis said they attacked Saudi Arabia with missiles and drones Saturday. The U.S. State Department later warned Americans to reconsider travel to the Middle East as Washington and Tehran exchanged threats to resume attacks.
The Dow fell 1.7% last week, its worst weekly performance since March. The S&P 500 slipped 0.1%, while the Nasdaq gained 0.7%.
Asian markets were mixed. South Korea’s Kospi rose 0.85%, while the Kosdaq gained 0.43%. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.49%. Japan’s markets were closed for a holiday. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index climbed 0.35%, and mainland China’s CSI 300 added 0.64%.
The Federal Reserve raised interest rates last week for the first time in three years as inflation remains sticky and bond yields stay elevated. Oil prices remain near $100 a barrel, while the 10-year Treasury yield is close to 5%.
Investors are also watching a key U.S.-China summit this week covering tariffs, critical minerals, artificial intelligence and other economic issues.
